Areum
An “Areum” is an ancient unit of measurement that is the length of a person’s arm when their arm is fully extended. (Old unit)
I wanted to write down the word for the unit, so I looked it up and found an old unit called an ahm. I was fascinated by the idea that it’s not an exact centimeter, but rather the length of a person’s arm when they hold their arm at full extension.
Hanbok
Hanbok is the traditional clothing of Korea, known for its vibrant colors, flowing lines, and timeless elegance. Rooted in centuries of history, Hanbok reflects Korea’s cultural heritage and aesthetic values. It consists of key components such as:
- Jeogori: A cropped jacket for both men and women.
- Chima: A long, high-waisted skirt for women.
- Baji: Loose-fitting trousers for men.
Hanbok is traditionally made from natural materials like silk and ramie, with designs that emphasize balance and harmony. Historically, it was worn daily, with styles varying based on social status, occasion, and season. Today, Hanbok is primarily worn for special occasions such as weddings, holidays like Chuseok and Seollal, and cultural events.
Modern reinterpretations of Hanbok, often blending traditional elements with contemporary fashion, have made it more accessible and appealing to younger generations worldwide, further spreading appreciation for this iconic aspect of Korean culture.
